Spode Behind The Scenes
Art Residency within Spode
This exhibition shines a spotlight on the working-class heritage of pottery manufacture on the Spode site and captures the thoughts and feelings of its workers through metaphorical symbols depicted in the artworks. The exhibition features the collaborative efforts of two artists, Stephanie Hayes and Paige Sutton, who delve into themes of heritage preservation, memory, and identity.

Pits ‘N’ Pots (2024) - Steel, Cooper and Wood
Delving into the rich culture of Stoke-On-Trent's industrial history, I aim to shed light on the often-overlooked role of working-class individuals and families. This work explores admiration for the community's resilient spirit and unwavering dedication that helped shape the city's identity. By delving into the personal stories of the working people, I confront the harsh realities of economic forces that shape individual destinies and collective.
